About the founder

Jean Hopper-King

Founder of ReFresh Resort, Inc. and of Restore, Refocus & Refresh. Known to the ministry as Elder Jean King.

A life of obedience

“When God says do something, you do it.”

Jean describes herself as someone who does not move around. In four years she moved twice, each time because the Lord told her to, and each time, she says, it was a smooth move.

She hosts the morning gatherings of Restore, Refocus & Refresh and receives each month’s theme in prayer. Sometimes the Lord answers in a dream or a vision. Sometimes, she says, she has had to wait.

The founding call

The retreat began before there was land.

  1. AtlantaMore than thirty-five years in Atlanta, until the Lord told her to move, and named a place: Smyrna.
  2. SmyrnaThere is a Smyrna in almost every state. She waited a year and a half before a dream showed her which one. She packed up a whole house and went.
  3. PlatformOnce there, she asked, “Okay, Lord, I’m here now. What do You want me to do?” He said, “Establish a platform.” Restore, Refocus & Refresh began.
  4. HomeThen came two dreams about moving back home. She was led back to where she was born and raised, and there she is waiting on God to move.
The waiting

The waiting was part of the building.

God showed Jean the vision of ReFresh Resort, and then He made her wait for it. In her words, Abba used the waiting period to build his own version of her: less control, less desperation, less striving, and more trust.

A ministry meant to restore weary leaders is being founded by someone who has learned, personally, that striving is not the same as obedience.
